If one uses his full first name he will shift uncomfortably and just look a bit distressed, so it isn't serious, other than the fact he will learn to avoid you. Ash is a very passive sort of person and rarely seems to get angry, though when he does, even then he is passive about it - he won't physically get active (partially because sweat is gross), but he will flick his wand and possibly injure you if you anger him. To do that, you would have to insult his deceased wife or someone he considers important to him. Insult him all you want, he'll just waddle away in normal circumstances, or give one detention when he's the professor at Hogwarts. He won't raise his voice, he'll just say 'detention, five o'clock' or 'five points'. He does apologize quite often when he knows he gets in the way of things - especially when its something he can't control and pertains to specific things discussed in the next paragraph. Ash is a neat-freak. And when I say neat-freak, I mean, borderline OCD, should be put into a hospital type of neat-freak. Things that are not straight (physically, sexually he doesn't care if you're not straight) will bother him, even if it isn't in view because he will constantly think about it. And therefore he must straighten it - unless somehow he gets distracted by something he views as more important, though he would likely go back to whatever wasn't straight after he's done being distracted, given his memory is one of the best you could ever find. With his neat-freakery, he is a germaphobe and will refuse to shake hands and will flinch if someone touches him, and then sanitize himself after the contact is over. He'll refuse to step on cracks on the ground, sit on the ground, touch anything that was on the ground without being sanitized first... Essentially, if it could possibly be dirty he will very likely not touch it (unless he's distracted and afterwards he'll drop it and sanitize himself). While a brilliant duelist and knowledge-seeker, these issues he has with the world around him, constantly being afraid of germs and sometimes even other people have prevented him from succeeding - especially since his wife died, as before that he could at least function in society. Regardless of this, he is a master of puzzles, being able to put together situations, understand people from small things they do, and of course complete even the hardest puzzles. [attr="class","nodensright1"]SUBJECT BACKGROUND [attr="class","nodensright21"] [attr="class","nodensright22"] Ever since he was little he was an odd little guy. His parents adopted him when he was less than a year old, having been unable to conceive themselves. They donned him with the name 'Ashley', which he always hated, but it was his name so he didn't complain about it. His biological parents were a muggle man and a witch, but his adoptive parents were both half-blood wizards. He grew up a brilliant young boy, though he was always afraid of just about everything. Things never clicked in his head, but his parents supported him and tried to make life as comfortable as possible for him. When he was 11 and he boarded the train, he brought along a full-body suit so he didn't have to sit on the dirty train seats. Full-Body. Yeah. When they tried to sort him, he jumped up several times before sitting down and then jumping up again. It was fairly comical to those watching but Ash was terrified. Eventually, he stayed still just barely long enough to be sorted before he jumped away and nearly cried from it. His Hogwarts years were fairly uneventful, he mostly did great in class, and the school knew about his weird antics. He didn't know it but there was a girl four years younger than him, Jean Fairfield, who had a huge crush on him when she was a first year and him a fifth year. After he graduated, he became an auror, finding that his talents would prove useful when it came to catching dark wizards. And honestly, he was fantastic. He was the ace, even if his antics and neat-freak tendencies tended to grate on nerves of those around him, but he got results. That was what mattered. He was a wonderful duelist who could catch a dark wizard without breaking a sweat. Finally when he was 24 years old, Jean Fairfield (played by Shelley Henning) had grown up as well. She was on a job, as she was a journalist for the Daily Prophet. She was investigating one of the dark wizards he was assigned to find. She interviewed him, and asked him out. He refused. He never really wanted to kiss or touch anyone, especially not - ugh - mate with someone. However, during the assignment, he would bump into her several times as she was conducting her own investigation, and despite him warning her it was dangerous she persisted. In the end, Ash was captured by the dark wizard, and Jean ended up swooping in and saving his little ass. After he cleaned himself majorly, he went to her flat to thank her. They ended up talking, even though it took some convincing and his own cleaning job for him to be willing to sit on the couch. He finally agreed to meet up with her. It took him a year to be willing to hold hands with her, three years for him to kiss her, and five years for him to eventually propose to her (he was 29 when they married). She was the love of his life, and she was so patient with him. He wasn't quite as terrible as he is now back then when it came to his neat-freakery. She brought out the best in him. Given the cruel world, of course, four years into the marriage, when she was off investigating one of her stories, she was killed by someone, but the culprit was never found and there was no evidence. He still tried his best to figure it out, but nothing came. He became recluse, not showing up for his job as an Auror. His superiors sent people to check on him, and in the end they 'let him go'. That was five years ago. During this time he has obsessed over finding her killer, despite there being nothing left to investigate, no clues left. He had money from his parents and saved up from when he was an active Auror to support himself, for food and various needs. This spring (1978), he was asked by Dumbledore to become the DADA professor, and his therapist told him he should take the job. It took a lot, but he eventually agreed. Because he did want to improve, and his therapist said this would be the best way to do it. |
