Severus walked through the lawns, right from the gate. His left arm tensed up – the dark mark right there on his arm, and yet he was welcomed in here. Invited. Slughorn apparently was excited about this – excited to retire more like so he didn’t have to be at Hogwarts when shit hits the fan and he could run. However, the job wasn’t a full-time position, as he insisted that it not be the last time, they talked about it, when he agreed to come in for an interview and to hash out the final details, such as pay and exactly when he would be there. He had the idea already – half a day at the school, morning classes he’s sit in on and eventually teach a few here and there under the guidance of Slughorn.
Walking on in, Severus looked around, students occasionally passing, seeing him and whispering. Ah yes, they might know of him, given he was here just last year. He was incredibly young for this job – but they were very needy apparently, and he wasn’t going to have the full-time position for a few years anyways. Just training. Ignoring the looks mostly, Severus walked up the stairs towards the office. He waited there for a moment before the staircase immerged just on time.
After entering the office, Severus took a few steps in towards the old man sitting there.
“Wonderful you decided to come.”
Severus stared for a moment. “Cut the small talk. Half days. Mornings. 1250 galleon a month – raised to 1750 a month, after I become a fulltime professor. Room and board just like everyone else.”
“Done. Is there anything else?”
Wow. He didn’t expect that to be so easy. He furrowed his brow. “I can bring anyone who doesn’t have the mark to the school if I wanted.”
“So long as they are approved beforehand and not deemed a danger to the students, that will be fine.”
He blinked a couple times and then nodded looking to the side. “I can do whatever the hell I want to when it comes to teaching so long as the students learn what is needed to pass their tests and the similar. I have the authority to dock points within reason, as well as give detentions.”
“It’s a deal.”
Wow. Okay, well he couldn’t think of anything else. Severus nodded as he reached out a hand to shake the man’s hand. Dumbledore nodded and shook the hand, after standing and bowing his head. “We’ll see you tomorrow for your first day at work. Your room will be connected to the potions office. Professor Slughorn has taken a different office as its bigger.”
Severus nodded and quickly turned to leave. He walked down the stairs slowly and finally ended up in the Great Hall. He smiled walking down the center of the room, looking to the Slytherin table with a small smile, then the Gryffindor table with a grimace. He finally made it up to the staff table and saw a new chair already made for him, a note on the chair that said his name. He took a seat and took in a deep breath looking out at the room. There was some discussion probably because of the young man sitting up at the staff table – rumors of who he was or why he was here if they already knew who he was. Let them talk. He almost enjoyed the attention here.
