The boathouse was a long stairway, but for a chance to be with Connor at his invitation she couldn't pass up! So while it was a long walk down, she had made haste to get there and down the steps double time, risking a few falls along th way because of the hurry. More so, he had said he was going swimming which meant-- Well, she'd be patient till she got there. He was, after all, a guy and guys were often late, forgetful, and easily distracted along the way. She knew this because she had two older brothers and forgetting what they had been doing was as normal to her as drinking juice was at breakfast; you expected and prepared for it. So she had her bathing suit on, but a nice dress on over it. Just in case something else happened. "Oh please please not be in the water yet..." she said as she reached the last flat turn of the stairs near the door! Stopping at the door with her forehead pressed against it she stopped and tried calming her heart first from the hurry taking three slow breaths before making an entrance as her mother always had mandated. As ready as she would ever be, Dahlia opened the door and sauntered in. And then passed through the boats not seeing him and then just as she got to the launching area she heard a splash. "Beatrix's Beard" she swore. Sure enough she saw his shirt and shoes on the ground as she came into sight. A sigh, she picked up his shirt and folded it after smelling it (Merlin he smelled good even for a guy) and set it on a boat edge instead of his shoes. Just like her brothers' careless way with clothes she found herself automatically picking up behind them as if she couldn't bear to walk through sweaty clothes on every surface. She didn't see him in the water, but it was like him to go swimming without waiting for a buddy for safety reasons. Slipping off the hooks on the back of her neck she slipped it over her head and then the slip, folding them by habit (long ingrained) and put them next to his on the boat before slipping off her sandals. In her bathing suit she headed to the edge and shyly slipped into the water instead of jumping in. Stroking out, she saw his head and headed that way. "You're worse then my brothers, Dusk, couldn't you wait even five minutes for me?" She'd called him Dusk for a long time and he called her Dawn since they were opposites. She splashed him on general principals before diving down enough to get both her hair smoothed out with her hands and to catch a glimpse of his chest under water, even though the Black Lake made it murky. Tha-thump went her heart.

Connor grinned as Dahlia slipped into the water and he watched as she dipped her head under the water to smooth out her hair. His grin turned lopsided as she surfaced to look at him.
"Dawn, darling, the water was calling my name! Who am I to deny it?"
He chuckled, splashing her back.

As restricted as her life was, she still managed some secrets if limited. One of those was who she choose to hang out with in this year where her brothers were gone. And one who was a friend was much more in her heart then he knew himself, but that was maybe one secret she couldn't release! When she realized she had missed seeing him half dressed she had let slip a curse she rarely heard except in the dorm and knew she had to be careful not to let anyone else hear her mother might get the news from. She had not, however, thought of trying to impress him with her own figure being unused to the games of relationships yet.
Women had an extreme evolutionary advantage in that contest if they knew how to use it. Few men were able to hold off showing an interest in those instances, but she was too young on ideas at this time. Her brothers had deflected a lot of attention pretty firmly over time enough so most didn't consider her a safe target to pursue. Only friends got that close anymore and most had been already 'vetted' by her family's attention. Not a subject she ever thought of with good thoughts indeed!
Her reprimand fell on deaf ears. "Oh, so it's more important to listen to the water then me?" And here she thought water was a Slytherin thing! Dahlia shook her head at him after he splashed her back knowing she couldn't compete with the size of the splashes. "You're just using that as an excuse, silly! I think you're just afraid I would drag you back to that report for Sprout."

His lopsided grin grew and he swam closer to her, putting his hands on her shoulders.
"Dawn, my dear, nothing is more important that listening to you."
He chuckles, "and be that as it may, I didn't want to run the risk of it. That report is daunting!"
He was joking obviously. "But I thank you for your assistance with it. Well get on that, after a bit of fun, hm?"
And with that he dunked her under the water and swam away laughing lightly.

He put his hands on her shoulders and to stay there while he spoke she had to move her legs. Moving his along side hers put hers sliding up both sides of his legs, inner thighs since she was so much shorter then him. "Hey! Careful..." Her hands caught at his shoulders for purchase causing one leg to slide from calf to mid-thigh straight up his inner leg unaware of the effect. Dahlia like the feel of his leg, strong and more muscled then hers for sure even for a Ravenclaw.
It was unfair that he was so strong.
"It has to be done! And I doubt it was in your head when you saw the water anyway, Dusk--" and he dunked her, causing her to surface spluttering when she managed to surface. "Not fair!" and she swam after him, ducking her head under the surface as she swam closer to him, reaching out and catching his lower leg.
His skin was slippery and her grip unsure, but she lightly squeezed his leg as she felt him, wonderingly. When he stopped in reaction, her hands slid to his knee under the water as her head surfaced. "Oh you can't get away from me that easily!" She reached for a better grip on his leg higher to pull him closer.

He snickered as she called out to him.
"Yeah... call me the master procrastinator. School's just started and Sprout's already pinning us with stuff like that, C'mon!"
Lopsided, half-cocky smile wobbled a bit as her hands went into places no-one had touched him before, luckily it was hot out, so he was already red in the face.
Didn't stop his heart from skipping that beat though.
He swallowed heavily, looking at her, frozen in place. They weren't that far out, so he was just standing there.
The grin was back, however. "No, I cannot get away from you, can I?"

Procrastinator for sure. That was one of the biggest problems, if she really believed he might be aware which she was not. "IT'S THE LAST YEAR!" She shook her head at his stuffed head, obstinate. "Of COURSE it's going to be harder! Isn't that logical?" His shoulders were nice and broad she realized, something she hadn't really thought about before.
Never having thought of broad in shoulders it was rather nice to feel he had them! And then he was standing. Without thought she caught his arm first floating a bit in the water beside him with a firm nod. "Nope! I'm clingy I guess," she exclaimed with a slight giggle after. His face was reddish and she tilted her head and flashed him a nice smile! "You're standing on the bottom aren't you? Cheater."
The black lake got quite a bit deeper off the shore, but she could tell he was taller anyway. As if she hadn't imagined his entire length before...

"Hm, it is indeed the last year."
His grin grew slightly larger. "Procrastination should not be something we should be doing, huh? But the water is nice. I'm in good company. It's very hard to want to go back inside the stuffy castle and work on essays."
He laughed. "I am a bit taller, than you, Dawn. Is it cheating when I am just using my abilities naturally?"
He grins at her and leans in close. "Clingy. Indeed."

This was like play-fighting teasing like her brothers had tortured her with growing up! Using their strength and power against her so she had to be quick and slippery to stand a chance. Well, at least the water helped there. She frowned at him. "What, so now you are fishing for bribes?" He was tall enough if she glanced down she could have seen them just under the murky edge, tauntingly unclear. Guys! She managed to resist looking down but it took a little effort.
"Impossible. Here you are in one of the coolest places in the land, magic everywhere, last year to enjoy it and you want to be given reasons to not go swimming." Dahlia wondered if anything could turn his head off playing! Like her brothers (not that she liked comparing them, but experience limited her scope) he was being teasing too! She lifted herself slightly by pushing down on his arm forgetting his arm would then be pushed over her chest.
"You. Difficult you. You SURE you're not a Slytherin secretly?" A hand covered his face and she shook it back and forth like a no before releasing him! "Yes I know you want to swim and yet you could do that all summer! Oh!" Her eyes popped as she got an idea. "What would you do to learn that there is a swimming pool inside the castle? Warmmed for the winter?"

"What?" he chuckled, giving her a teasing look. "Bribes, no? Fishing, maybe."
A smirk. "It's the last year to go swimming in the black lake too. Last year to try and figure out what the whomping willow is for... I've heard strange noises coming from there once a month."
He rolled his eyes with a shake of his head. "Me? A Slytherin? Not possible. I'm too adorable."
He gives her a cheeky grin, leaning forward. "And if there was one, I would've used that too. Should've asked those Marauder blokes before the left, shouldn't I of?"

Fishing? With a muggle baseball bat possibly. "You are after something. Be direct, Connor. What are you wanting?" 'Me, right?' She searched his eyes, wondering if he was only playing around with her mind or if there really was a purpose besides this playtime. Did he see anything seriously? Or would that be as she feared only after school was all done... She made a face at the mention of the Black Lake. "This murk? You're going to miss this part? You really are crazy you know."
"There are a dozen better, clearer places I can think of, more then half of them clear as a bell and natural. You would miss the one with stuff floating in it." Oh here we go. She punched his shoulder lightly. "Don't you dare go and get yourself in the hospital wing again! I know it's only a sapling, but it's strong Connor!" She remembered the last time and her worry about whether he had been hit in the head too hard! And that had been before she had had feelings about him that way! Gah!
He had a point. "Okay I'll give you that one. Too many secrets in their eyes. But you are stubborn." Oh she could see it in his eyes that spark of curiosity! He was going to hide it for sure, but he was thinking. "Probably then. But if you were say, doing well at that report I'd be much more wiling to take a break on a regular basis to take you swimming somewhere cleaner then here..." 'Privately...' she didn't hopefully say.

He gives her that charming smile of his. "Direct? What's the fun in that?"
He moved closer to her again, "it may be murk, but there's something special about this murk - I may just be nostalgic."
His hands take hers with a grin. "Me? Hospital wig? Why would I ever?"
He was playing of certain things with an air of cool. Trying not to leap to conclusions or anything. She was a pureblood after all, and the chances of her actually being interested him are slim.
"It may be only a sampling, but it hides something. I can't help but be curious about it."
Still, he grinned at her teasingly. "I'm very stubborn, probably to a fault. I may be missing something that's right in front of my nose, couldn't I?"
He sighed, "it's only the first week.... I just wanted to have a little fun with my favorite girl, Dawn."
A wink.

She really wanted to beat him on his chest actually in frustration, but he was thinking he was funny. Resisting a deep sigh, Dahlia squinted her eyes at him. "You're doing that on purpose? Trying to get me to react? Naughty boy." A shake of her head. "No, I know you better then that. You really just want to be a goof-off. Why do I still act surprised at you? You'd think I would have learned." He leaned a bit more into her and she felt his chest close. Unable to stop herself, she slid both her hands from his arm up his chest with her eying how nice and broad he was.
"Well. If swimming has helped you grow this way I guess it's good for something." From a distance an observer might have thought they were on the edge of something romantic. Instead she laughed and held up her fingers. "First year, the tree threw you across a clearing. Check up with the nurse where we first met. Second year tree smacked you with a bird it had caught directly into your head, the nurse was still pulling feathers out of your hair an hour later. Third year, barely made it into the clearing before a rock caught you in the stomach another gift from the tree and you were staying overNIGHT in the wing, fourth year-- do I need to continue?"
Tossing up her hands in frustration with this single minded pursuit of his she sank rapidly down, catching herself on his arm to keep her head up. "No one says it's hiding anything but a clearing maybe! One, you can walk around it, Two, it's an empty clearing except for the few rocks it hasn't bashed your brains in with yet. Three it's a magic school. Why WOULDN'T there be a tree to teach young brainless boys not to take things for granted?" This focus on a tree for Merlin's sake made her wonder about him sometimes, but she still lo--liked him a lot! He told her he wanted a little time with her and she deflated a bit. "Maybe I'm just a little frustrated with the tree focus. I'd rather you spend more time with me then talking about this mystery with a tree." She turned, putting one hand on his cheek. "I'm here now, Connor, am I not more interesting then a tree?"

He rewards her again with his charming smile, watching her hands move across his chest. He repressed the shudder his body wanted to do. If only her touches were because she was interested.
"I have to keep to tradition, don't I? I have at least one run in a year with that Willow. Can't quit now." He chuckled at her recount and shook his head. "No, no, you don't need to continue. I may have been hit in the head pretty much every time, my memory hasn't failed me yet."
He watched her sink into the water. Out of embarrassment? Shyness? He wasn't sure. He was still trying to calculate her actions here. He chuckled, her hand going to his cheek made him wonder, and his hand raised to hold it there by her wrist, and he leaned his head, pressing into it.
"Oh, you are definitely more interesting than a tree, sweet Dahlia. The Dawn to my Dusk." He took in a short breath, taking the hand from his cheek and pressing a kiss to her knuckles. "But is my interest safe? Depending on how far my interest lies."

Boys. She put her head against his chest in frustration at this willow business and felt his breathing with some interest. "Oh Connor, why are guys so stubborn." His interest in putting himself in harms way rather depressed her. If something went wrong... He talked about his memory, but she was more interested in his ability to perceive her interests in him! Her head came back up after a moment.
Her eyes were wide, her look pensive. "Safe? Why wouldn't it be safe? Do you imagine my brothers are around the corner waiting with beater's bats? Connor!" She pushed on his chest as if to push him back though in the water it did barely anything. "What are you saying? I thought you only wanted friendship? Have you been holding out on me?" Her face flushed at once and her heart skipped a few beats!
Had he been ignoring her on purpose??
