A bittersweet smile finds its way on his face and he gives a shrug.
"Perhaps it's a defensive mechanism. Emotions are hard."
If he hadn't been standing firmly in the mud he more than likely would have been pushed back. He caught her hands, holding them tightly.
"Your brothers are indeed scary... but that's beside the point, Daliah. What sort of guy would only want friendship with a girl as beautiful and wonderful as you? Perhaps I have been holding back."
He looked shy now. Still holding onto her hands, but his face was worried. "I've grown to care deeply for you, Dawn. Beautiful Dawn. But what am I to do? I'm muggleborn. It would be utterly selfish to take you for myself."

Guys were notorious about not doing emotions well with the fairer sex and she gave him a look which said that was bullsh!t. "Emotions are easy! Did you feel pleasure at jumping in the lake? Teasing me? Laughing? Emotions are your base, it's only holding them back you have trouble with. And why would you around me? We've known each other all these school years! Why would you hold back things around me?" And that was the point really and she was glad to push them at him instead of the other way around. His mistake for saying it first! Her Ravenclaw logic pleased her.
Connor's words pleased her even if she wasn't sure she liked having her hands caught. Still, guys were supposed to be in charge she had been taught so she submitted even as she squelched the displeasure automatically. "You shouldn't hold back with me you Dusk, we're close remember? If you have feelings you should be upfront with me. My brothers shouldn't make you afraid to be open." But wasn't she guilty of not wanting to scare him away? She shouldn't be so double-sided. She bit her bottom lip and decided it would be best to be truthful.
"Connor, this is our last year. I expect my father to marry me off as soon as summer starts. I doubt he will consider my choice or wishes in the bargain. I am so jealous of your ability to make choices it's insane!" 'Take you for myself' barely was spoken before she lifted herself up to look into his eyes, some anger there and other emotions swirled together. "Connor! Don't you dare demean yourself to their level! You are as great as any pureblood and you know it! Most pures are creepy, controlling, self-assured--" she couldn't say the word she had heard "--people I've ever met! It's my family who cares about blood not me!"

He frowned, apprehensive of what to do.
"What would you have me to, Dawn? Shall we elope after the school year ends?"
Troubled, he drops her hands and turns away from her, moving a few paces away with a sigh.
"But you care about your family. To... pursue this, you would lose them."
He turns towards her again, eyes sad. "I've wanted to tell you, Dahlia. I've been wanting to tell you for so long. I held things back because it would be better for you if you had found...."
A sigh. "I know you can't choose who you fall in love with. But this... this is suicide. I... can't bear to put you through that."

"Elope?" and then she wished she hadn't made it sound like a question! "You like me that much? You'd...marry me?" Damn him for not showing that sooner! Trying not to look too eager, she slid forward a bit staring up into his features, her face very interested in the answer! "Connor...how long have you been hiding this?" At the family comment she stared at him.
"When I'm married off by contract I'd lose them too, Connor. Pureblood girls become the husband's property, their line. I might see my brothers at an event, but there are strict controls about that sort. I've read about women being kept at home to have babies till their connections outside the husband are gone. You don't know much about pureblood men I can tell." She frowned remembering some of the stories rumored. And when he spoke about how it would be better for h--
"CONNOR O'BRYAN! How DARE you decide what's better for me! Did you hear me lusting over being a baby factory for some high-nosed brat?! Did you find me sneaking into the Slytherin dorm every chance I get to tempt some boy into bed?? And you know me so well you think I was already sold on following my mother into abject slavery? Where did you put your brains when you made it into the house, huh?" She jumped in the water as best she could, slapping her arms around his neck as she basically landed on his back.
"What ever made you think I was looking forward to the same life my mother had? Huh? Speak up!" She caught his ears and held them tight, preventing him from knocking her off and threatening without words to twist them if he said the wrong thing! "And you just thought not telling me you had feelings would be better? Leaving me in a situation with no hope,no escape, no future of my own?"

Fire and anger were before him, he could tell. He'd done this woman before him so wrong. He felt guilty, ashamed, but boy was he in love with her.
There were few things he could do, to quell her ranting. But one he thought of would make them both happy and quiet.
Her hands were still at his ears, and he said nothing. Carefully, he removed them slowly and let her slide off his back and turned towards her once more, his hands at her hips, his head suddenly dipped down and quieted her ranting with a solid kiss.
After a long moment, he broke the kiss but did not pull away. His forehead on hers. "I'm sorry, Dahlia. I've been an idiot and a git. I didn't want to ignore ire you or the signs, but I did. I'm sorry."
A breath. "I've felt like this awhile now. Fourth, fifth year."

Dahlia had been raised to obey, to do as she was told and expected. Tradition showed that it was a man's world, a woman's role quieter and much more secondary. Few women made the splash in the pureblood world though it was not unheard of. SO despite her temper being poked and her anger flowing hard through her veins at so much time lost the loss of control as he took her hands and then kissed her was an instant quell on her thinking and emotions.
And that kiss!
While a first kiss which made it all the more precious, the real impact to her head was the fact he had taken control and she had let him without any hesitation! While her brother might have pulled him away and gotten angry, they would have been far angrier at her complete folding in that moment, visibly a big deal! Her eyes were very glazed over, her mouth unable to grasp at forming words. He spoke. She heard the words. But it still took a few before it clicked what he had said. Her mouth opened, but it was a few seconds before she figured out what to say.
"F-fourth. I've been waiting for you since fourth." Her eyes closed though she didn't resist his still holding her hands. She licked her lips. After a moment she looked at him and muttered "Elope. Sounds good. Gotta finish school first." A deep breath. Then she shook her head and pulled her hands out of his, putting them around his waist as she clung to him tightly, her head on his chest in some sort of pure relief. "Never thought there would be any hope. Always figured I was doomed to father's plans. And then you pipe up after three years."
She leaned her head back a moment and slapped it back against his skill to point out the frustration. "All that time, you beast, Dusk. All those nights of feeling dead inside. Any point you could have given me some hope. I should beat you up for this. Merlin, Connor." A deep sigh before she looked back up at him. "Are you going to still be this stubborn and frustrating when we're in the same bed? Cause if you fight me on the Lake, I can imagine I'd get pretty tired of fighting with you in the bedroom. Git."
Oh wait. She hadn't said it yet. "I love you, been waiting on any sign from you the same way, nothing. Are you going to rescue me or not?"

They'd used so much time, dancing around each other, and he sighed softly, his arms going to wrap around her as she clung to him. He held tightly, still hesitant.
Her too. He'd been an absolute idiot and a git. He wouldn't say blind, but holding back was probably the stupidest thing he'd done.
He had a million things on the tip of his tongue to say but knew better than to say it. Obviously, he had been in error with his thinking. At least with him... she'd be able to see her family, if they wanted to see her, at least. He wouldn't cut her off.
He chuckled his lips near her ear. "Perhaps you should beat me up. Knock some sense into me."
He sighed lightly. "I'm sorry, Daliah, I don't know what more to say--"
Then she started talking about being in the bedroom and he flushed, his grip tightening on her. Bedroom??? What is going through this girls head!
"U-uh, I mean..." he paused a moment, thinking about it. "No. I definitely would not fight you.. in the bedroom. Never. I'd want you too much to fight you."
His hands pulled her towards him, his lips ghosting hers. "I love you too. And I'm glad you love me, even if I have been an idiot." A breath. "How would you like me to rescue you, sweet Dawn?"

While she was very frustrated with him right now, he had finally opened his mouth. She couldn't hate him entirely for being male naturally. "I think you just owe me. Big time. And I will be calling it in at some point soon, Connor, don't go around thinking you have gotten off scot free." She'd always heard boys were a pain to have to have in a relationship when it just started, but their brains just didn't work the same. At least logic worked with him as a fellow Ravenclaw. An eyebrow went up however.
"Connor. More things are done in a bedroom then just sleeping with someone. Bedrooms are the neutral place, the private space for most coupl--" Oooh, now that was a thought. Her face took on that look many Ravies did when they got into some deep thinking. After a moment she seemed to come out of it and gave him a look as if measuring him to see if he might be up for something. "Answer me honestly, Dusk, is it lust or love? Cause there is a big difference."
Oh yes she had a plan all right and win or lose it would help her mind be at ease at least. All she had to do was convince mr I-am-what-is-right-with-the-world Connor that he was doing what she wanted, not what he wanted. "Okay. I need a favor and you happen to be the right person for it and you owe me big time. Four year's worth actually. So you have two days to figure out how to get into the girl's dorm without being caught. Tomorrow night midnight. You got it?"
And of course his mind would jump the wrong way cause he was a boy. She knew that. But she had just told him bedrooms were for more then one thing. "And no, I would never invite you to my bed for that in a room filled with gossiping girls. My family would yank me out of school in a heartbeat."

"Scott free? For my idiocy? Never would I expect that, Dawn."
He chuckled with a shake of his head.
He gave her a thoughtful look, "of course its love. Do you think I would've been this stupid to deny you over lust? I thought I had your best intentions in mind!"
A little miffed, his brow rose. What sort of favour would have him sneaking into the girls' dorm? Up to her room? Into her bed?
He gave her a smirk, "you know, I'm not as great at those marauders; but I'll definitely prove to you that I'm true with this task."
And hopefully Flitwick won't murder me.

Good. He knew better then to upset a gir--her. She smiled nodding back to confirm what eh thought. "Had to be sure. Most of the boys in the dorms" and she did mean all of them "think with only one of their two brains when it comes to girls. It's one of the more amusing things the girls laugh about actually." And that was in truth because it was easy (said some of the girls) to lead a guy to do the strangest things with the thought they might get a reward.
"Good! Then you'll be forgiven for those years if you can do it. I'd prefer you not lead Flitwick or suspicious people to the dorm room of course, but you know better. I wouldn't trust to anyone else to help me with this, Connor, I'm taking a big risk here even so. Don't let me down," and she leaned over and kissed him on the lips, slow, unsure, and untested. When she pulled back it was with a flushed face and uncertain she had succeeded.

He shook his head with a chuckle.
"I would like to think I am not so simple minded..."
Given I wasted four years on avoiding you!
She was definitely poking at his curiosity. A damn Ravenclaw trait that really should be worked on for him.
"I won't," he vowed quietly, smiling softly, his cocky grin gone.
She leaned in and kissed him and he grinned warmly. His hands rose to cup her cheeks, lifting her head slightly as he slanted his lips over hers.
When he pulled away, his eyes locked with hers.
"I love you, Dahlia; my Dawn. I do. More than I could ever put into words... so I hope my actions from this moment forward prove this to you."

Ah so he thought himself above that. She smiled, hoping he was right as she knew little about how to weave those sorts of tricks with boys. She had no experience really and wasn't sure she'd ever manage it well. "I'm glad to hear it, oh Dusk who can't wait five minutes for me when there's water around." She was teasing, but it was something he was distracted by. And distraction would not lend him any help on her little task.
He was a far better kisser then she was! Had he dated anyone before? "Wow, you are good at that, been practicing?" She had never found it easy to imagine or understand really; lips versus lips smashing together? Or softer, like an art? In any case he was way past her on that! "I was never allowed to ask about such so I really know little to nothing about it. I'm sorry for that."
"I'm sure you will live up to your words, my Dusk boy, but time is passing and we do have that report to work on you know..."

He heard the tease and pouted, hugging her tightly. "If you're worried about how I am when I'm set on something -- you'll need not to worry, dearest Dawn. I'll figure out your puzzle."
He chuckled. "Practicing? No. Just... I guess it's just natural with you. Easy. we trust each other."
He shook his head, "nothing to apologise for. I don't know all that much. It's one of the things we can learn together, Dawn."
He sighed, with a groan. "Fine. Homework it is!"

Puzzles. Yes, she could see why one would think of it that way. And he pouted! But she knew enough to know that a decision made had to be stuck to. "But you're good at that! I've tried it on dolls and it was nothing anywhere near as good as you did! It can't have been your first time, seriously?" She expected boys to have the experience actually, hoped for it. While there were a lot of things her parents wanted her to know, the pleasures of the bedroom were supposed to be left up to her husband's preferences.
Morgana's mustache she hoped he liked the idea of eloping!
"Together? Definitely. The way the girls talk there's a lot to learn." She only heard the side stories and comments which made little sense. Oh she understood the mechanics, but from the way it was described in the dorm it was quite a bit more then a textbook described! And she was missing a lot she could tell. At his groan she poked him in the side quickly! "hey! you know it's better to get it done with and out of the way! Who could relax with that hanging over their head?"

Merlin. Dolls. She had practiced on dolls of all things. He smirked slightly, "well, practice makes perfect, right? No need for the dolls anymore. I'll help you build your confidence, Dawn."
He brushed his finger tips along her jaw, still dazzled that he had actually, finally done something... And it was working out... Well, swimmingly. He chuckled mentally.
"There is a lot to learn, certain likes and dislikes. I want to experience it all with you Dawn. I'll find them all."
Another grin, "well as long as you're helping. It won't be so bad. C'mon, let's get back to the common room, it's nearly dusk." A wink.
