Suffering as others think her not as smart nor old enough and discounting her on sight. This she assumes to be the way many in the twenty-eight consider women too till she saw a few in her year being pursued, as well as younger then herself! At Five foot even, she has little doubt she will be undervalued her entire life especially by whatever man her parents choose for her. She very much doubts she will be given a choice. Since she is denied much exploration of the world, her own interests have narrowed to books, birds (which she can find at most windows), and tactile experiences, especially soft materials like merino. Her family is as yet unaware of her delight in waterparks (a hard kept secret). Raised to behave, Dahlia is more then just a pretty face, she is expected to keep some pureblood family pure that her family selects. There has been no pure in school who has inspired her interest because of their darker leanings in most cases (and the Marauders were far too naughty for her to hang around because she is at heart a good girl) and political interests. She has never been interested in politics or government, but social things like dances and parties she finds quite fun! At Hogwarts she finds the great mixing of all classes something extra nice, not quite grasping how difficult that would be for her situation. Personal choices for her outside of Hogwarts are few. Realizing many others have the ability to make their own choices irritates her though she would never tell her parents this. Enjoying a connection to Owls and other birds (who accept her care where others have trouble), she managed to get her parent's permission to work with Owls for a 'job' and trained both the owls she gave her brothers as Christmas gifts this year. Once her brothers graduated however, there was no one to keep her in line properly and she tentatively branched out in this single year of actual freedom. Several friends are half-bloods and muggleborn; she does not comprehend why it is so bad to those her family mixes with for these folks to exist. The answer about blood being watered down has never completely made sense to her. To her it would make more sense that something else was causing the issue, the source of magic itself somehow? She finds it frustrating that the wizarding world does not examine this trying to find the real root of the problem in how individual connects to such power. Obviously the goblins, Merpeople, and other creatures are not seeing a reduction in magic, only the humans and their crossbreeds. Power otherwise does not concern her that is a man's world not hers; her interest is in seeing that she gets to have some say so in her own life which does not seem possible the way her family wants things to go. - - - - - - - - - - 7", Rosewood, Fairy Wing Core, Unbending Pet: A little owl called Bogie who likes hiding in small places [attr="class","nodensright1"]SUBJECT BACKGROUND [attr="class","nodensright21"] [attr="class","nodensright22"] There were two brothers in the Selwyn family forming two cadet branches with the same last name, One leaning towards the Deatheaters and the other more neutral. Dahlia was born to Aaric & Adalbrechta Selwyn with two brothers, Bardawulf (3 years older) & Colis (1 year older). Raised along the Scottish border at Falstone, she grew up fairly isolated from the political and economic center of either area. Seeing her father only leave for work, she knew little about how the rest of the wizarding world went till she went to Hogwarts. As one of the twenty-eight, she had no idea that there were options for women in the Wizarding world till she met others who told stories about their families. Those who were from those special families spoke about more restrictions and 'traditions' which were more important. At home she also learned about the traditional roles and expected to be married off one day to the 'proper sort.' Never anywhere but at school without an escort, she has little control over what she is exposed to. At school however she learns what she is told is 'the lower class life.' She actually finds the interests of people at that social level to be far more interesting sounding. She has never run across the Romeo and Juliet story. The only job her family lets her work towards is with creatures or plants (she does okay with plants) and she choose Owls. It is unlikely she will get the chance to be a trainer for real except for last summer when she got to do a bit of assistant training. In school she made several friends, one even managing to invite her over (another girl pureblood so family accepted) to show her one of the few things to catch her imagination in the muggle world; an indoor waterpark. This makes more connections as she sees several people from school there over several repeat trips and opens up more to them in school, learning more about their lives with a sort of fascination. Now she has managed to beg the chance to have a second summer as an assistant, aware her family is probably trying to match her up as she does so. When she graduates next year she will be probably married in the same tie! And in this last breath of freedom with a choice, she lets her heart go one last time... |
