This is because, well, he is very judgemental. He has very skewed ideals on blood purity and so those who are less pure than him are lesser than him, especially muggleborns which he would refer to as mudbloods on a regular basis. However, to those who he views on his 'level' or even just below such as half-bloods who believe in the same values (basically they'd need to be death eaters if they aren't purebloods to prove it) he will treat them just as he treats his family - and his family is important to him. ]While he has a bit of a dark sense of humor when he is around those who he can relax around, which were those aforementioned like-minded souls. He doesn't mind jokes about torture - or even not joking about it and actually talking about torturing those who are blood-traitors and lesser than him. A prim and proper sort of person, Lucius conducts himself in a civil manner, most of the time, especially around those he needs to schmooze. Family is one of the most important things to Lucius, valuing his wife and his parents above all else in this world - joining the Death Eaters because that was what his father wanted of him - even if he wasn't particularly fond of the methods from time to time. However, he had grown a bit more accustomed to the methods and found himself joking darkly as previously stated. Even still, he prefers not to get his hands dirty, and prefers to manipulate the people instead of going out and actively fighting - even though he's a fairly good duelist himself. Lucius is highly intelligent and finds his niche with his silver tongue and ability to work people - either because of his money, name, or because he's actually a fairly persuasive sort of person. He can be cordial to anyone he meets, though why would he want to be cordial to a mudblood? Regardless of his biases and racist ideals, he honestly doesn't think that Voldemort is going about it the right way, preferring a takeover slowly and quietly as opposed to the full-on war that is raging. However, as he did as his father wanted and he's a coward in many ways, he does whatever is ordered of him - after all, his family is the most important thing to him, but that also includes himself. [attr="class","nodensright1"]SUBJECT BACKGROUND [attr="class","nodensright21"] [attr="class","nodensright22"] Lucius was born into a very wealthy family, however, it was shortly after his birth that his mother, Cassiopeia Malfoy died of an unknown disease. His father was quite distraught, but luckily they had such wealth that they needn't a job. Regardless of that, however, he was brought up by a housekeeper for the most part during the first few years of his life. However, when he reached the age of five, the housekeeper was fired, and Lucius was taught by Abraxas specifically, where failure was punished severely. He learned very quickly to adjust himself into the person his father wanted him to be, with no protesting, fearing punishment. It wasn't long before he was trained into a nice pureblood boy, learned everything he needed to know, even taught some basic dark arts. Of course he was sorted right into Slytherin, as it was what was expected of a high-bred Malfoy. He used his name, money, influence to become popular with the other Slytherins, even earning high-marks in all his classes. He was invited to the Slug Club quite early in his Hogwarts career, which was indeed a very big accomplishment considering Slughorn was highly regarded by a lot of wizarding folks - he only picked the best of the best, and if you were picked you would succeed. In his third year, his father got into some trouble politically, given the minister fell very ill and had to resign - and of course people suspected Abraxas. However, Lucius didn't care - the minister had been a mudblood. He didn't deserve the office. In his fifth year, he became a prefect, and in his seventh he became head boy, during which he welcomed Severus Snape warmly to the Slytherin table. It was during that same year his father arranged a marriage with Narcissa Black, a good pureblood woman whom he was delighted to hear he would be married to - after all, their blood was quite important. During that final year he also joined the death eaters at his father's command, believing in the cause, just not the method. After Narcissa finally graduated a year after him, they were wed that summer before the new year even began. |
