It was potions. Willow excelled at Potions. Not quite as much as DADA and Herbology, but enough that he was well on track to making Auror. Willow liked Potions. It was soothing, calming. And it gave him a chance to think. To plan. To think up new strategies for duels. Cunning ploys to bait the Death Eaters. Schemes to turn neutrals to the side of the Order. Plans to win this whole damn war.
To Brew Glory, in a sense.
But now, one Severus Snape was haunting somewhere besides the Slytherin dorms. Personally, Willow couldn't stand how those Gryffindors...what did they call themselves? The Marauders? Bullied him. however, Snape had an obsession with dark magic and there were rumors he was one of those who had gone over to Voldemort.
Which put Willow in an awkward position. He was trying to build a Slytherin opposition to the Death Eaters and, had Snape been his contemporary, he likely would have been a perfect candidate for recruitment. Someone like him likely needed a friend that wasn't afraid to slap him out of whatever dark magic. proto-Death Eater fixation he had.
However right now Snape was kind of just a prick. So what the hell was he supposed to do with him exactly? Couldn't exactly take him down when he didn't know what his deal was.
So he would have to find out what his deal was. Which meant talking to him. Which was likely going to have it's own challenges.
But it was best to just plunge into it. Willow was fairly good at thinking on the fly as well.
"Hey Snape. I'd like to ask you a potions question." He said. It was a pretty soft opening move, but he was fairly confident he could leverage this into a winning game.

Perhaps in a couple years he would actually be a professor, but currently he was wondering why in the world he accepted this position. Right. Because the Dark Lord asked him to, and Dumbledore offered him literally everything he wanted from the job, including a very nice pay. Was it worth it though? To have to deal with all these kids swarming around and acting like complete fools? He wasn’t quite sure about that yet.
A sixth year, whom he recognized from the common room from his years prior as a student, began to talk to him, saying he had a question. His dark eyes narrowed on the young boy. Sixth year, Willow Fey. It had been his goal to memorize the name of every one of his students. It wasn’t hard to learn the names of Slytherins seeing as he was a student just last year. Hufflepuffs were difficult since he never really thought anything of them before. However, it was still his goal to know about every student he would come upon.
“I may not be a full professor but you will treat me as such. You will refer to me as Professor Snape and sir.” It was one of the things Slughorn had already told him. He couldn’t be friends with the students. He had to demand respect, and while he could have those he prefers over others, he couldn’t let it go past a professional relationship. Even these kids who he had been friends with in prior years, he had to keep at a professional distance. It wasn’t hard to do that with Regulus who no longer wanted anything with him, though he was still working on it with others whom he had considered at least acquaintances. “Don’t waste my time, ask your question, Mr. Fey.”

Professor Snape huh? That was interesting. Delusions of grandeur perhaps? Or some attempt to keep a distance between them.
"I see. Excuse me, Professor Snape. I was just wondering how exactly I could brew Felix Felicis. I'm angling for a perfect day. There are some things I need to achieve, with graduation coming in only a couple of years. I'm sure you understand." Willow said, playing it somewhat casual while also injecting his words with meaning. Which he intended Snape to take how he wanted. He had been talking a bit with Slughorn, and he hoped that might influence Snape somewhat.
Hopefully, this wouldn't be as much of a misstep as his opening salvo.

Felix Felicis. Did he not understand exactly how that worked? Sure, you could have ‘perfect’ days, but it was highly controlled, dangerous, and addictive. Not to mention it took a master to brew it. He only knew of one person that wasn’t him who could brew it. And that was Slughorn.
“I did not realize you had such a sense of humor.” He narrowed his eyes, his voice emotionless, cold, and low. “Why on earth would you wish to brew a highly controlled and dangerous potion? Let alone ask the assistant instead of the master.” Severus pulled a small bottle out of his blazer, the molten gold gleaming in the little light there was around. “It would be a shame if I told you and you got yourself killed. I’m sure Dumbledore would fire me if that happened.”

Snape was...a difficult person to talk to. He would need to remember this and consider carefully if it was ever worth it to talk to him again.
"Listen I'm trying to become acquainted with you all right? I assume, since your teaching here, your in Dumbledore's confidence right? I was just trying to see if we were like-minded. I was trying to be a little subtle here." Willow said, talking a little more quietly. He hoped this would elicit...some kind of reaction. But Willow couldn't be sure even of that. Snape was a truly troublesome individual.
The odd notion of his mother having to deal with Snape's antics lept to his mind. He would pay to see that.

I know you from when I was in school here, as well as some research I’ve done on my students, seeing as in a couple years, perhaps even next year I will become the Head of Slytherin House. You barely qualify as a Slytherin. If the hat could make mistakes, I would say it sorted you incorrectly, but it did not. Likely you do not fit in any house and due to your blood, it placed you in Slytherin. You are lazy and arrogant.” He spat those two adjectives out, basically dripping venom all over them.
“Your manipulation may work on Professor Slughorn, but not me. The old fool is easily manipulated, but you’ll find that no matter who you are, you are beneath me.”

Willow chuckled softly. It was a tactic that had been beaten into his head by the Fisher King and Caitlyn. Don't let them see you get ruffled. Make them think it doesn't bother you. Make it impossible to tell whether what they have done benefits you or hurts you.
"See, I think you misunderstand me. I was...trying to be polite. Trying to do things the proper way. Thing is though I don't deal well with people that just don't see the benefits in a little good-natured chat. " Willow said.
"It's your loss really. I guess you'll never know what I had to tell you. What I could have offered. Good luck being Slughorns assistant, mate. I should get back to my potions now." He said as he began to get back to arranging his ingredients.

So that was how he was going to play this, hm? Severus gave him a lazy look before he turned on his heel and began to erase the chalk board. He wasn’t going to just give in because he tried to intrigue him. He couldn’t care less what a blood traitor Slytherin had to say. There was absolutely no reason for him to want to know what Willow wanted to say – he had everything he wanted already.
After finishing erasing the chalk board he turned back around, his eyes landing on Willow, and he just stood there, staring at the boy as if to say ‘try me’. It was a challenge, a power move. To show he was the one in power here. Not this stupid little student.
