She heard him suck in a breath and wondered if he might be actually surprised at her daring? It was only leaning against him after all; had her words surprised him? She frowned slightly in her head thinking about this. He had always been around, heck they were from the same dorm after all. They had gone swimming, practiced spells, studied-- it wouldn't make any sense for him to be suddenly surprised by her being close! No, that made no sense. Maybe a combo of the two?
Dahlia couldn't make any sense of that either, it simply didn't match her past experience with him. Maybe having her brothers gone had changed things for him. "Not enough? What do you mean?" he slipped his hand around her shoulders and she leaned into him glad of the closeness at least. Maybe he didn't know what he had, but she sure did! She heard his words which almost made her suck in her own breath, but remembered how many times he had teased her about her looks before and rolled her eyes. She checked her breath with a cupped hand and then elbowed him lightly.
Especially after his next comment. "Ha ha, I will have you know I did brush my teeth this morning after all so your teasing is to naught," she sat back up again despite her wishing to lie on him and just in time as a pair of girls knocked on the door as they opened it asking if they could sit in there. Dahlia (not expecting anything to happen naturally) waved it was fine and said suddenly "Oh! I nearly forgot--" and reached for her box, snapping open it to stick her arm into it and pulled out an orange ribbon wrapped red box for him.

He laughed. "You have an interesting way of interpreting that, Dawn my dear." His chuckling rumbled in his chest and he eyes the girls who joined them. He leaned over and whispered into her ear. "It is you, who takes my breath away." He grins, his arm pulling away from her as he goes to retrieve a book, getting ready to settle in for the Long haul.
It was then she handed him a wrapped package and he blinked and his mind seemed to scramble. Did he miss something? Was there a gift giving event he missed? Slight panic set in as he looked to her, pushing a grin onto his face to hide his internal panic. "W-what's this for, Dawn?"

She shook her head. "You were the one teasing me last winter about bad breath at the breakfast table remember?" It had been a pepper that she hadn't expected in one dish causing her to gash and spit steam, but he had teased her about it for a week after. "I didn't forget your comments about it." She chuckled softly. Still, his response didn't quite sound right though the teasing sound was there. She colored slightly, thinking he was just being gallant since he had never said anything like it before. A flash of a glance at his face didn't show any love-sick type look. Maybe it was just wishful thinking. At least the package threw him off. "Don't get too excited, it's pretty used, but I thought you might could use it. My brother dropped it off at our house during the summer when he got a new one and I told him I'd put it in storage. I figured you might be able to make good use out of it." Inside was a stuffed tent sack, though naturally he couldn't open it up in the train car. "I was pretty sure you didn't have one. DO you?"The sack didn't sparkle or anything, though the look of the tent was pretty uninspiring. However, when it came to wizard camping there was little that worked better then a real tent. "If you don't need it I can take it back. It's just going to sit in the attic all year anyway if not for decades."

He chuckled, "well... that was teasing, this is not." He was fairly good at schooling his features, keeping his real meaning of the words to himself.
He blinked once, a billion ideas suddenly cropping up in his head. Was it a sign? He didn't know. But his mind ran with it. "No! Uh.. I don't. Uhm, this is useful. It'll be useful I think. Did you do much camping?"

She focused on the tent, her smile at his surprise evident.
"I thought you might like it!" She shrugged after, but still looked quite pleased. "I know once you said you really thought it would be fun to do long trip camping and when he dumped it off it just occurred to me." She tactfully didn't say she knew he didn't have the money to have a tent like that, she had learned that much over the years from his exclamations.
Sitting back with her book she settled for the trip while the other girls continued a conversation about something which had happened in the corridor; they looked like fifth years to her. Unaware it also showed how much money she had that she could ignore the cost of something of that nature she settled back like someone having done a good deed.
