"It's good to hear you've given this some thought. I feel better knowing you will be able to take care of yourself." She laughed softly remembering. "I remember when you had to beg for help to find your way around. You looked so confused about how to get different places..." She nodded, he had a point. And being out in the muggle world might insulate him from the war happening which she could only think was better.
"I suspect it would be safer there too compared to the world now. Good for you for escaping it I think..." His words however confused her again. "So...like the Prophet, only muggle? What is their newspaper-- wait! The London Times you mean?" She didn't know if that was the only one in the world or not, but she was trying.

He grinned a bit more, nodding. Then rolled his eyes as she brought up how he used to be.
"That's all in the past! I don't get lost on the stairs anymore, Dawn!"
He laughed, remembering that. It did give him a chance to get to know her better, so it wasn't all bad.
"Perhaps. It--" he cut himself off again. "Right. The London Times. But I could also just write my own book to sell, as well. Wouldn't that be neat?"

She laughed lightly, having forgotten about her family now just as she needed too! "I did say it was a long time ago, silly!" She didn't say that when she thought back about how he looked he had been cute when lost. "And I did want to save you from having to deal with Peeves. He I won't miss." She remembered the thousand spiders in the dorm in her fourth year.
What had he meant to say and then stopped? She frowned slightly that he was hiding something, but let it go. "Oh nice! I hear that's a thick newspaper so they must need people to write things." He mentioned a book and her eyes grew wider. "A book? Really? Wow Connor you never mentioned that before!"

"I have to agree with you... I won't miss him much either."
He chuckled softly, shaking his head. Gosh, those were the days. Getting lost on the stairs to and from classes. How muggle of him.
"I hadn't mentioned it because I'd only just thought about it this summer. Made a list. See?"
He yanked out a sheet of paper from his bag and handed it to her.
"Lots of ideas... not quite sure how to pull them off. But, I'll figure it out. It's what we Ravenclaws do best, right?"

Mentioning Peeves had been the right thing to say. "Yes I feel sorry for the first years. They get it the worse from him. He seems to delight in fresh victims." The mention of a book had certainly caught her off guard; while she loved Connor and his ways, consistency with school work had never been something he held his nose to for long and writing a book seemed to her to be much harder! With her mind reeling with that bit she mostly nodded in response.
"Wow, a book. That's-- I assume we're talking about the ones in the school so what subject would you be researching? I'm amazed that you might be someone kids study someday..." Not that he wasn't awesome in his own ways, particularly physically but she wasn't interested in anyone else managing something like that. "You'll let me know if I can help in any way, right? I'd love to know you are all set for afterwards. I don't have any money, but maybe I can keep your nose to your writing until you graduate to help you get started!"

Conner grinned with a nod. "Of course I will, Dawn, you can count on that."
Yeah, it seemed sort of out of character for him, given his track record with homework, but it was much easier with his own projects, that he seemed to focus on, or anything of his interest. His eyes trailed to her again and he had to hold back a sigh. If only he could just... say something to her, too. She at least seemed excited for him in his personal endeavours....

It was a bit depressing talking about his future as a separate thing, but that was life right? Here she had hopes for the last year and -- no, not going to depress herself right now. "And how did you get this idea in your head again? Are there any writers in your family?" To think she might be buying his book one day or seeing it in a bookstore window! "Kinda of cool, knowing a celebrity." She poked him in the side just to keep him humble about it!
Of course, this depended on him actually writing. With that sudden speed bump in the road of her mental map, she shook her head.
"I'll invite you to parties as my writer friend. That sounds pretty fun actually." She smiled and her eyes went to the door as chattering girls past by, barely giving them a glance. She suspected her brother would be coming by soon to check on her.

"No, no writers in the family, just... an urge to want to make a mark in the world, you know? Not necessarily famous, but known."
His face flushed however when she poked him in the side and he caught up that hand for a brief moment, lifting his head, lips twitching, and then he released her hand, leaning back against the seat just as several people passed by the compartment.
He would actually do it, one day. The book. But if he couldn't bother to talk to her, to tell her of his feelings... what use would a book do? He would be nothing without her in his life.
She was talking about parties and a writer friend and he smiled, "thanks. The connection would be great."

Make a mark? She thought about that not very long as it was a familiar topic. The Dark Lord, several Ministers, and certainly most high-up families wanted to as well, but she had never like the way people wanted to tackle the situation. "Sounds like a much better way to try and make a mark then most I know. I know you will do well at that, for sure!" She had no interest in making a mark, she wanted to just have a CHOICE.
Frustrated by his playing with her hand but not doing what she would rather, she still managed a smile. "What are friends for after all? It would be a lonely world if we never did anything for each other. I guess it will depend a lot though on whoever I end up with. I might have parties I might be stashed in a back room. Not like I have much say so there."

At her words, he felt himself frown deeply. Whoever she ends up with.
His heart clenched and he sighed, completely distraught internally. He looked up, "I hope whoever that is, Dawn, that they'll treat you how you deserve. With respect and love and that they'll treasure you because you're a treasure among treasures."
At least he could be truthful in that. He really did think all those things of her. But to be the one to be that person.... that was a fools wish.

Not that she was angry or trying to twist a knife or anything, but since her interest was in getting out of a contract and here was a guy she would love to be out with, she had to make sure he understood the full extent of the situation. Maybe over time this year she could get across that this needed rescuing like a damsel in the stories. Remembering some of the wizarding fables this brought a frown to her features as she glanced out the window; the victim in those was often in a lot of permanent curses. That didn't exactly bode well for her future.
As he spoke she turned back towards him, a hand reaching out to touch his leg mid way up his thigh. "Oh Connor! That was so sweet! Thank you!" She laughed softly in reaction adding "You are so much more a gentleman then the guys I normally half to deal with, I promise you. Any girl would be blessed to have you for a husband!" She might have colored a little bit at his compliment, but that was also the moment the train did it's first lurch as it began to move forward slowly, causing her to look at the window again with some relief!
"Oh thank goodness! My father must finally admit to me being a near-adult, he didn't send my brother in to check on me. I guess my following orders has finally gotten me some trust." She made a face at the thought.

Sweet. Yes. That's... that's who he was. A man of a thousand compliments. Use them to sway a girl to his side? Well, that was preposterous! He wanted to ask her if she would feel blessed if she were to have him. But damn, his nerves kept his mouth firmly shut! His eyes flicked to her hand on his leg and as quick as he could, before he could overthink it, his hand rested upon hers and he leaned towards her, with intention.
"That's a good thing for me, or I would've been kicked down the hall."

After awhile of listening (and seeing two ministry officials who seemed sort of careful about talking which he sketched faces on right quick) he moved to pick up his trunk and move to the train, setting foot inside just before it started moving. Fortunately the distraction of people waving out of windows and people in the crowd shouting things back was enough confusion he shrunk his trunk and moved farther into the train looking for a place to hang. Eventually he hung by one of the windows for a bit enjoying the air and glad to see London falling away.
When the crowd was less, he took a bit of paper from one pocket and a small owl from the other fastening the paper to it's leg and waiting for a proper moment before tossing the owl out of the window. Report aloft, Regulus went to find a corner in a cabin to pass out in for a bit...

As he put his hand over hers she leaned into him shoulder to shoulder, setting her head on his shoulder slightly, her hair tickling the side of his face. "Ha, I always feel safe around you, you big lug," she said with a throaty chuckle, "which is good since my brothers are out of school now. But I know you will keep me safe won't you Connor?" If he would only go farther then that, but she doubted his nerve after all this time.
Still, if he got it any year maybe this would be the year.
His mention of her brothers caused her to give a sad smile. "I can't really blame them for being protective, but yes they can be pretty rough." She squeezed his leg slightly and then let go before someone came by and questioned it. She didn't want to embarrass him after all.

She leaned into him, head settling on his shoulder and he sucked in a sharp breath. He swallowed softly, not wanting her to notice he was nervous, though it was pretty plain. He smiled, however. Him? Keep her safe? A muggle-born? Sure, he was pretty good with the things he learned... excellent really. As a Ravenclaw, he had to be, had to prove himself. Was it enough though?
"It's not enough though," he whispered as she pulled her hand away and with a sudden wash of confidence, readjusts his arm to around her shoulders, pulling her into him. He would allow that. He froze, waiting on her reaction on his sudden movement.
"Brothers are meant to protect their sisters, siblings, the ones younger than them. How could they not, with you as breathtaking as you are?" Oh, Merlin, had he actually sad that out loud? Merlin's balls. "Not to say that you wouldn't be able to pin me down to the floor as we speak."
He gave her a grin.
